Snowpocolypse

Oh Richmond.  You make me laugh.  A little snow is forecasted and you would think it was going to be a Snowpocolypse if you went to the grocery store....which I did on Saturday.  Need milk or bread....HA!  Think again.  You should have been there when the store opened.  After witnessing first hand last year how the city just shuts down (church closures on Sunday mornings run across the bottom of the TV like school closings) ...my mom and my sister (my mother being born and raised in Iowa) are convinced that southerners are wimpy and that their inability to deal with snow is what lost them "The War".  Hahahaha.

We were told a Nor'Easter could possibly effect us this weekend.  All day yesterday, the weather teased us with snow flakes but nothing stuck.  It was just too warm.  But we were able to get Jeffery out in the snow and he was mesmerized by the white flakes falling from the sky.
Playing in the snow

So, we decided to go out for Mexican food...and margaritas...with our neighbors/friends.  When we came outside after eating our fill of chips and salsa and Carne Asada and shrimp tacos...the snow was definitely sticking.  And by the time we got home....there was a good 2-3 inches on the ground.
Winter Wonderland

It was absolutely beautiful.  And as I worked on getting the baby inside and packed up so we could continue our fun and frivolity at our neighbor's house, Dave partook in a little snowball fight with several of our neighbors!!!

Snow does weird things.  At 10:00 last night, the sky was bright and yellowish and looked like it was 6:00pm.  Snow buries everything under a blanket of peace and calm and silence.  You can hear things far away when it is snowing....yet noises that are right under you come across as being muffled.  Snow gives people an excuse to imbibe Tullymore Dew or Brandy in an attempt to "warm up".  :)
So happy

Snow also accumulates on power lines....power lines that are above ground....and on trees which then break from the weight of the snow and fall on to said power lines and blow transformers and wipe out power to whole neighborhoods.....like what happened to us last night.  Jeffery was asleep in his pack n' play at the neighbor's house and the adults had just finished a new card game when we were thrust into darkness and back into the 19th century.  :(  It was 11:00pm so we all called it a night and we headed back to our house and pulled out the hurricane lamps and the candelabra.  Fortunately, it was a warmish night (considering everything) so we all did fine without heat.  But when we woke and still had no power...I was a little disheartened.

Jump in Dave to save the day.  He pulled out the trusty Coleman Stove and heated up water for coffee and to warm Jeffery's bottle.  He also managed to make a fantastic egg, cheese, and ham scramble for breakfast!  Leave it to an Eagle Scout to be prepared! :)
Camping at the Pedersen house!
Just as he was about to pull out the kerosene heater to fill it and get it lit.....the power came back!  :)  As a little girl, I used to fantasize about living in a cabin as a pioneer with only candles and no electricity and I had a very romantic notion of how it would be.  And while there is a novelty to the other thing....for maybe an hour or two....the "no electricity" thing gets old very quickly!  We had been without it for 12 hours and while we did just fine and had been prepared, I am happy to be back in the 21st century.  :)

However, the power outage will not dampen my absolute glee with the snow that fell yesterday.  Nor will it stop me from laughing at these silly southerners!  :)

Gotta love those Eagle Scouts. Your Jeffry is so handsome! I can't wait to meet him again the next time you venture out west.
