Slovakia part 1

Welcome to Slovakia (how many people actually go to Slovakia?!!)

Bratislava

View of Bratislava and St. Martin's Cathedral. Eleven Hungarian kings and eight queens were crowned here as Bratislava was the capital of Hungary for over 200 years.

The view of the Danube River from the hotel.

The streets of Bratislava

These gold crowns, embedded in the cobblestone streets through out Bratislava, mark the Coronation Route of the Hungarian Kings.

Michael's Gate. This gate was initially built in the first half of the 14th century and is the only surviving original gateway to the medieval city. The tower now houses the Museum of Weapons and Town Fortifications -- which Dave said was both fascinating and horrifying at the same time.

Dave says the facades on the buildings in the historic section of Bratislava were just stunning.

Be careful where you step! Life size figures populate the streets of Old Town Bratislava adding a bit of modern charm to the city.

Probably the only paparazzi that exists in Slovakia!

The U of R choirs performed a concert in this church located in Pezinok, Solovakia which is not far from Bratislava. Pezinok is considered to be the wine region of Eastern Europe. Dave says that it is Wine and not Beer that flows like the Danube through Slovakia. The concert was broadcast on national TV, both Dr. Riehl and David were interviewed (using the help of translators) for TV and they were showered with gifts of flowers and wine. Thankfully, Dave was able to bring home both a red and white wine from Pezinok and we have since enjoyed both. Anyone know where you can buy Slovakian wine here in the U.S.?! :-)

Dave commented that 2 days in Bratislava was not nearly enough and that he loved the city ... but they pressed on and went to .....
