California, Here We Come
The week before Christmas, Dave went home to California for the first time in years. Unfortunately, I was unable to join him -- somebody has to keep working and tend to the pets and house! :-) But he had a wonderful time and got to see grandparents, family, and even an old friend from college. While he was there, his family took him to the Pacific Aquarium in Long Beach, CA. He "claims" that this is the best Aquarium ever (he's never been to the Shedd in Chicago!) and this trip is all he could speak about. The below picture is looking out from the Aquarium towards the Queen Mary (it is now a hotel or something like that).
While they are not inhabitants of the sea, the aquarium has an exhibit of Lorikeets which was Dave's favorite part -- hands down. He is such a birder! ;-)
Could he look any happier?
Dave's mom joined in the Lorikeet fun.
Dave's brother, Eric, is perplexed by these beautiful birds. Or maybe they were just having a meaningful conversation!
The Aquarium had a "petting zoo" of sorts. In certain tanks, you could actually pet the rays and sharks in front of you. This was Dave's second favorite part!!
No, he couldn't pet the jelly fish -- nor would he want to! But I just thought that he took some beautiful pictures of these lethal beauties!
Besides seeing everyone and catching up with family and friends, this trip to the Aquarium was the highlight of his trip.
Now it's time for him to go the Shedd!!
