4th of July Tradition

On the 4th of July, Dave and I looked at each other in amazement and said, "I don't think we're in Arizona/California anymore". We say this to each other many times throughout the year when we participate in something that would just be foreign to the people out west. But this 4th of July -- we really meant it!

Why? The morning of July 4th was spent with good friends from our church ---- picking blueberries! There are several farms throughout the area that have "pick them yourself" deals and July is the time for Virginia Blueberries!

No - those aren't dwarf smurfs! Those are actual blueberries. We spent 2 1/2 hours in the morning filling our buckets .... and mouths .... with blueberries. The farm charged $1.99 per pound but charged nothing for the blueberries that missed the bucket and went straight into the mouth. At the end of the day and with only two people picking (and Jessica helped 2 younger kids in our group fill their buckets), we came away with 10 pounds of blueberries! 10 Pounds!!!!

Dave took it upon himself to divide our bounty into 3 groups and freeze them. So we now have 10 pounds of blueberries in our freezer. If anyone has really good blueberry recipes, please feel free to share!

I think we may have just found a 4th of July Pedersen tradition!

Yummy! How pretty they are! Blueberries are getting so expensive, it would be wonderful to go & pick them like that!
