Our Trip by the Numbers Part 1

Our family just completed an EPIC trip together.  This is the first of two posts (see the post below for the second entry).  The easiest....and most efficient.... way to chronicle the trip, I think, is to give you the numbers.  So....here it goes!

5 Pedersens
4,176 total miles
14 days gone
Rest stop in VA on the WV border...the start of our trip
1 Honda with car top carrier.....packed to the brim with people, fly rods, fishing gear, tent, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, luggage, etc.

0 electronic devices to entertain people: no dvd players, no smart phones, no iPads.  Niente.

8 states: Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado

4 major rivers crossed: Ohio, Missouri, Mississippi, Colorado
Picnic lunch stop on the banks of the Ohio River in New Albany, IN

1 night in WV (the first night of the trip) where we were forced to drive an extra hour to KY and stay in a historic lodge (oh drat!) because of a deluge and electrical storm at the state park in WV that we were going to camp in.

2 nights camping at Graham Cave State Park in Missouri.  (THANK YOU, Aldi Grocery Store, for supplying all of our camping needs!)  Jakob would like you all to know that this was the place of Daniel Boone's cave.  (Not really......but the cave was on property belonging to his son!)

1 NASCAR track (Kansas Motor Speedway)

1 Rattlesnake Jakob and Dave befriended ;) in Cedar Bluff State Park, KS

2 nights spent on the beautiful Kansas prairie (both nights being particular favorites of the whole family) at Cedar Bluff State Park: 1 night in the White Tail Ridge cabin and 1 night in the Jumpin' Catfish Cabin.......both had glorious AC!!!!  :)

2 Interstates: I-64 from RVA to St. Louis, MO and I-70 from St. Louis, MO to Glenwood Springs, CO

3 Mountain Ranges crossed: Blue Ridge, Allegheny, Rockies

To be continued: (see below)
