Can't you just hear Bing Crosby? :-) Well, if you wanted snow this past weekend, we had MORE than enough to share with everyone!!! Richmond got hit with by the second Nor'easter of the season and instead of rain -- it dumped snow on us!! Dave and I had flashbacks to Flagstaff! It was wonderful!! Really! Dave had stocked up on food during the day on Friday and we didn't have anywhere to go all weekend so we just reveled in being literally snowed in!!!
This is the beautiful scene that awaited us outside on Saturday morning. It was a magical winter wonderland!!!
We started with 11 inches of snow on the ground in the morning. Not knowing how long we would have power, we had breakfast and showered much earlier than a normal Saturday. Thankfully -- we never lost power!!!
In the picture below, Dave is standing in the back part of our lot, with shovel in hand. Unfortunately, Ace Hardware was sold out of snow shovels by Thursday night and Home Depot hadn't even received any so we were forced to shovel the snow using VERY heavy and awkward garden shovels. Not the ideal way to clear snow but it worked!
Now to the highlight of the day!! We let the dogs out to play in the snow. Hilde LOVED it!!! Our next door neighbors, Adam and Kate, also have a corgi by the name of Lucy. She isn't even 1 year old yet and is absolutely ADORABLE!!! The whole family was outside playing in the snow and we lifted Hilde up and over their fence so the two corgis could play together. It was sooo cute but we couldn't tell who was herding who!!! :-)
In the picture below, Adam is handing Hilde back over to us -- play time with Lucy was over. Doesn't she look sad?!
Oh, but her sadness was short lived! How could a corgi be sad for long with all this snow to play in?!! The poor thing though was almost too short to play in the snow! She had to hop and bound through the snow like a bunny rabbit. She quickly made enough "highways" though so she could easily traverse the area.
♫ Snow / I long to clear a path and lift a spade of snow ♫
Thank goodness for Dave! With his garden shovel, he did clear a path for us -- our entire walkway! We then put down a ton of "Icee Melt" and that walkway was hazard free.
While Dave labored away with the walkway and I worked on uncovering the Camry, the dogs played and played. Once we went back inside, we hardly heard from them for the rest of the day -- they were soooo exhausted! Tired dogs are good dogs!! :-)
Russell Clifford was a little unsure of the snow. He is 9...or 10 and isn't as spry as he once was. Well, he never was particularly spry but still... And he has become quite deaf so I made sure that I kept in eye contact with him in case I needed him to come to my side for any reason.
But watching Hilde roll around in the snow and have a jovial time must have been infectious because Rusty soon joined the party and went face first into the white powder!
The dogs weren't the only ones having fun with the Christmas Snow! Here I am making a Snow Angel in honor of my mom!!!! Here you go, Mom!!!!! :-)
By the afternoon, we measured 15 inches of snow in our yard!!! 15 inches!!!! Amazing!!! And magical!! Well, it was magical until the following morning when we had to somehow make it up and over the foot of snow in front of our Camry and onto the un-plowed and terribly icy road so we could make it to Mass. But we did and then we came home and had more play time in the snow!
We wish all of you, our family and friends and loved ones, a very Merry Christmas and peace and happiness in the new year!!!!
